 | 366452 | Jun 19, 2005 1:40pm | Thought I would post this here, what's your take on it?
"The Bush Butcher's Bill: Officially, 40 US Military Deaths in Iraq from 1 through 11 May, 2005 - Official Total of 1,791 US Dead to date (and rising)
U.S. Military Personnel who died in German hospitals or en route to German hospitals have not previously been counted. They total about 6,210 as of 1 January, 2005. The ongoing, underreporting of the dead in Iraq, is not accurate. The DoD is deliberately reducing the figures. A review of many foreign news sites show that actual deaths are far higher than the newly reduced ones. Iraqi civilian casualties are never reported but International Red Cross, Red Crescent and UN figures indicate that as of 1 January 2005, the numbers are just under 100,000.

"You ought to realize that President Bush personally ordered that no pictures be taken of the coffined and flag-draped dead under any circumstances. He claims that this is to comfort the bereaved relatives but is designed to keep the huge number of arriving bodies secret. Any civilian, or military personnel, taking pictures will be jailed at once and prosecuted."

Having said that, I'm going to ask those subscribing to this theory that there are thousands of unreported deaths in the US military as a result of the war in Iraq to examine the logic they are using.
I live outside of Ft. Bragg where troops from the 82nd Airborne and the Special Operations Command have been in Bush's wars since September 2001. Currently there are over 50 reported deaths from Ft. Bragg. I can promise you that were that number tripled, we in this community would know that. We'd be sceaming coverup from the rooftops. I'm an organizer with Military Families Speak Out, Veterans for Peace, United for Peace and Justice, the North Carolina Peace and Justice Coalition, Bring Them Home Now! and an auxillary member of Iraq Veterans Against the War. I work with some of the most savvy, informed and dedicated activists in the world. If there were thousands od unreprted dead soldiers, we'd know it.
Additionally, if one looks at the casualty list from icasualty.org [icasualty.org]. one will see that those who die in hospital are reported.
Also, the policy of not showing pictures of the planes full of coffins landing at Dover was a policy instituted during the Clinton administration, not the Bush administration. I feel that these unsubstantiated claims and misrepresented facts undermine the credibility of the antiwar movement. There are enough legitimate issues to fight against without resorting to the type of theory in this thread. |

Would you like me to delete the post if it's indeed wrong? I guess I'll have to be careful what I post from now on, since only a few know the real truth & folks like myself who have access to thousands of sources don't have a clue. |

This war is not an academic excercise in politics for me. I know people who are in Iraq. I look at the casualty list several times a day. I work in schools where the parents of kids I see every day are deployed. These are real people stuck in a fucked up situation. They are killing and being killed for a bunch of bullshit and the way for us to counter that is not with more bullshit. Sorry if I don't always wear my nice boy hat on this subject.
There aren't only a few who know the real truth. There are thousands and thousands of people who are in the antiwar movement, who live in military communities and who have family members in the military. I find it hard to accept that we are all being simultaneously duped by a government that's killing our friends and neigbors without us knowing it. Within 10 miles of my home there are literally thousands of Iraq vets. For someone to say that many of them have been killed and NOBODY knows it is ludicrous. |

When I posted the article, my hope was to give others a chance to examine it & not to draw any conclusions based on it alone.
Point taken amerpie, my point is the US is a very large country made up of 100s of cities alone, thousands of towns, villages & rural areas. How even thousands & thousands of eyes can be everywhere all the time seems a bit of a stretch.
No problem with the "nice boy hat", I know where your heart is & I agree with you 99% of the time. Can't ask for more than that can you.
I've read what Hapax mentioned in the almost-free-speech group.
If I'm to understand correctly, all of the dead are accounted for in Germany. The problem I still have with this is that everything is controlled by the military which answers to those in power. And I don't think anyone can argue that we've seen to what lengths these war criminals will go to cover up anything they want supressed. |
