This site expresses better than I can what we can actually do about world peace.
The article: dhara.dhamma.org/conference/Science2000/sngSummitPressRelease.htm [dhara.dhamma.org/conference/Science2000/sngSummitPressRelease.htm]
It begins:
"NEW YORK-Vipassana Acharya S. N. Goenka addressed the delegates to the Millennium World Peace Summit as they gathered in the United Nations General Assembly Hall today-first ever gathering of religious and spiritual leaders in the UN.
Mr. Goenka's speech, in the session entitled Conflict Transformation, focussed on the themes of religious harmony, tolerance and peaceful coexistence.
"Rather than converting people from one organized religion to another organized religion," said Mr. Goenka, "we should try to convert people from misery to happiness, from bondage to liberation and from cruelty to compassion."
Mr. Goenka gave his speech during the Summit's afternoon session to a group that included roughly two thousand delegates and observers. Mr. Goenka spoke in the session that followed CNN founder Ted Turner's speech. Mr. Turner is one of the Summit's financial patrons.
In keeping with the Summit's theme of seeking world peace, Mr. Goenka stressed in his speech that peace in the world cannot be achieved unless there is peace within individuals. "There cannot be peace in the world when people have anger and hatred in their hearts. Only with love and compassion in the heart is world peace attainable."
An important aspect of the Summit is the effort to reduce sectarian conflict and tension. Regarding this Mr. Goenka said, "When there is anger and hatred within, one becomes miserable irrespective of whether one is a Christian or a Hindu or a Muslim." ... |

People didn't chose "misery,bondage,poverty...",they were forced into this shit.So if you want to convert somebody, convert people with "power".
Otherwise....WORLD PEACE right now and forever!!! |

World Peace and all that. |
|
|
| Animaxsor | Dec 25, 2007 6:27am | I quoted Mr.Goenka because he gave us ordinary political speech. He didn't said anything about political structure and it's influence on society or how important is to educate people. All he said was "convert people from misery to happiness....",but he should said "we must educate people how to step out of misery ....".
WORLD PEACE is the best and only alternative we have!!! |
|
| | | Grouchoo | Dec 25, 2007 6:57am | well, one cannot disagree with that.
However, anyone who disregards the world's religions, as Mr G does, is in for a bit of a struggle. |

| Goatboy77 | Dec 25, 2007 2:38pm | | Imagine. No religion. Just truth. That's world peace. Unless the truth happens to be that the people of the world don't want peace because they'd rather have the plausable deniability that religion offers them and there by attempt to dodge personal responsibility for their own happiness and peace. Until you know what peace really is and have it yourself you can't offer the world peace. You can't really offer the world peace anyway. All you can do is show people who are interested how you aquired peace and hope they figure a few things out for themselves and pass on what they learn. |
